Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader‘s first expansion, Void Shadows, has been delayed until September.
In a post on the game’s Steam page, developer Owlcat announced the month-long delay was so the team could fix technical issues with the expansion.
“We’ve been putting everything we have into the development of [Void Shadows], but we now see that while the new additions to the game are awesome, the technical quality is not quite there yet,” the statement reads.
“That’s why we’ve decided to spend some additional time on polishing and eradicating everything that might spoil your experience as you investigate the darkest corners of your void ship or romance a new companion. We apologise for the delay in delivery, but we hope you understand our reasoning.”
Glory To The Imperium
As the statement suggests, Void Shadows is centred around your massive ship (which doubles as a thriving civilisation). Your mobile fiefdom is under threat from Genestealers, a highly intelligent parasitic species that infiltrates populations and rapidly takes them over. These creatures are very dangerous, considered to be one of the biggest threats to the Imperium by the Inquisition.
The expansion will also add a new companion (and love interest) to help you battle the Tyranid threat, a Death Cult Assassin named Kibellah. Considering the Death Cult sees blood sacrifice in the name of the Imperium as the highest form of worship, I’m sure she’ll be a bundle of joy. At least she’ll fit in with the rest of the sadists on my crew.
According to an interview executive producer Anatoly Shestov had with Polygon, Void Shadows will add approximately 15 hours of content to Rogue Trader, and will allow you to expand and upgrade your void ship (as you deal with those pesky Genestealers, presumably).
In our 8.2 review of Rogue Trader back in December, we called it “a shining star for fans of the setting who appreciate a narrative focus.”
Void Shadows will now be released on September 24.
